35 miles of exclusive water on one of Patagonia’s most potent tailwaters.

We’ve partnered with Limay River Ranch to give Explorer Pro guests exclusive access to the stretch of the Limay Medio that made this river’s reputation. LRR holds long-term leases on two properties along the Neuquén province side of the river — the highway side — giving clients roughly 35 miles of exclusive water, including at least 10 miles of drivable side channels for wading and short floats.

The Limay tailwater is one of the most potent fisheries in Patagonia. Incredible insect density pushes resident rainbows to 17 inches in just three years, and the hatches here are rivaled by few other rivers in South America. Fishing is typically most productive working the riffles with dry/dropper rigs, sight-fishing along the rocky cliffs, or drifting flies from the boat.

Starting in December, migratory browns push up from the Chocón Reservoir and spread throughout the river by mid-January, staying through the close of season at the end of May. These fish run anywhere from 22 inches to well over 30 — and during the summer months, most are caught on dries. It’s not always easy, but roughly 40% of LRR guests land the largest trout of their life here.

Six individual cabins and a main lodge, where the bar and all meals are served. Each 360-square-foot cabin has a high-efficiency split air conditioner/heater, a wood stove, and a private bathroom.

LRR is run by Ron Sorensen and his wife Vanessa — Ron got his start guiding on Montana’s Madison and Henry’s Fork before a chance conversation landed him a guiding job in San Martín de los Andes, a season that turned into a career. He and Vanessa now split the year between Patagonia and Montana, with a guiding philosophy built on real connection, not just fish counts.

LRR runs on 24-hour 220V power from a solar array stored in lithium-ion smart batteries, with a natural gas backup generator that kicks in automatically if the batteries run low — the ranch operates on at least 80% renewable energy. High-speed satellite internet is available throughout.
